At the China Game Industry Annual Conference 2008, a report on China's game industry for 2008 was released with information that the actual sales within China's online game industry in 2008 was CNY18.38 billion, a year-on-year increase of 76.6%.
The report, which was jointly published by the Game Publication Working Committee of the Publishers Association of China and the international market research firm IDC, predicts that by 2013, the actual sales of China's online game industry will reach CNY39.76 billion and the compound growth rate from 2007 to 2013 will be 16.7%. The report shows that China's self-developed online games enlarged their competitive advantages over the past year and the actual sales of these games were CNY11.01 billion, accounting for 59.9% of the total sales and the sales increased by 60.0% compared with those of 2007.
At the same time, online games played an important role in promoting relevant industries in 2008. According to statistics, about CNY31.28 billion sales in China's telecom industry were directly brought by the online game industry, increasing 20% over the previous year; the number in the IT industry was CNY11.24 billion, increasing 15.0%; and that in the publication and media industry, mainly covering relevant magazines and books, was CNY5.32 billion, increasing 25%.
