Metrologic Instruments, Inc. today announced that it is expanding its manufacturing and R&D facility in Suzhou, China, and has opened a second sales and support office in Guangzhou. The company specializes in optical image capture and processing solutions.
Metrologic's wholly owned subsidiary, Metro (Suzhou) Technologies Co. Ltd. is located in Suzhou, China, near Shanghai and currently employs over 300 people. Recently, Metrologic signed an agreement to purchase the building and surrounding 140,000 square feet of land from the development company.
Phase one of the building construction project began in December and will add over 24,000 square feet to the existing building. Phase two will include construction of a new 75,000 square foot multi-story building.
Joseph Sawitsky, Metrologic's Vice President of Manufacturing, commented, "New product introductions, new markets, and increasing market share are fueling our need for additional production in both our Blackwood, NJ and Suzhou, China facilities. The expansion of our Suzhou facility will enlarge our R&D area for additional new product development and will considerably increase our manufacturing floor space in order to take further advantage of lower cost production. With this purchase, we will be doubling the physical plant and increasing the available land space for future expansion and flexibility to grow sales."
