A seminar on the influence of China's self-instituted WAPI standard, which is expected to be enforced in June 2004, was held recently in Taiwan.
Participants believed that given the unlikelihood of China's single standard being accepted globally, Taiwan manufacturers could obtain some profit by trying to play a key role in amortizing the global standard and that of the mainland.
In contrast to companies like Intel and Broadcom, quite a number of Taiwan professionals have expressed their willingness to accept the mainland's WAPI standard. It is reported that the Wireless Application Promotion Association from Taipei will send a delegation soon to the mainland to meet concerned manufacturers in order to learn about the WAPI technology and discuss conditions of authorization.
