Huawei Technologies says that it is confident of being selected to supply wireless solutions for Telekom Malaysia Bhd's third generation (3G) mobile network deployment.
Huawei Technologies chief operation officer Dr Alexander Liu said the company's pilot 3G WCDMA network for Telekom in Kuala Lumpur had performed well during the trial period. "With the lower cost of manufacturing in China, we will be able to offer price-competitive equipment compared with other network equipment suppliers," he said at the company's demonstration of its 3G network telephony and applications in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Huawei equipment is being used for Telekom's pilot 3G network covering Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triange, Bukit Bintang, Berjaya Times Square, Shangri-La Hotel, Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka, Central Market and Menara Maybank areas. Dr Liu said Huawei's 3G system used an open and flexible platform and could support terminals from other major handset manufacturers.
