United Solar Ovonic LLC (Uni-Solar Ovonic), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD), today announced the signing of a new contract to provide a 300kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system for the Beijing New Capital Museum.
Scheduled to open to the public in 2005, the museum will be among one of the most modern museums featuring advanced, environmentally friendly energy technologies. 300kW of Uni-Solar Ovonic's unique lightweight, rugged and flexible photovoltaic laminates will be applied directly to the stainless steel roofing pans using the "peel and apply" adhesive. This integrates the photovoltaic array with the roofing material itself. The completed system, designed by Uni-Solar Ovonic, is expected to deliver more than 363,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually.
This project specifically was a direct outcome of a business development mission in 2002 headed by Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans aimed at expanding U.S.-China business opportunities.
