ACCESS, a provider of mobile content delivery and Internet access technologies, today announced that the new Samsung X859 handset is powered by ACCESS Java technology.
The X859 is the first commercial handset in the world to adopt a JTWI compatible Java solution, as well as the first UniJa enabled CDMA 1X handset for China Unicom. The phone was launched in China earlier this month.
China Unicom's UniJa is a new Java-based service that is fully compliant with the JTWI standard (Java Technology for the Wireless Industry), and it also includes China Unicom's extensions for DRM (Digital Rights Management) as well as a camera API. The UniJa solution was developed by ZRRT Communications Technology Co., Ltd. (ZRRT), and leverages ACCESS' Java technology.
CDMA 1X handset manufacturers are actively working with ACCESS and ZRRT to develop UniJa-enabled mobile handsets, and additional models are expected to be available in the next few months to support China Unicom's forthcoming Java download service.
