Ever since Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture Heritage began seeking suggestions online about the proposed protective 'Buffer Zone' around the Forbidden City, its website has been under constant attack from hackers.
The site, which is seeking public opinion about how large an area around the Forbidden City should have official protection to present any damage from the improper planning of urban construction and development, first experienced false and malicious voting, and then the deliberate deletion of online content. As a result, the Administration of Culture Heritage was forced to regard all the votes as invalid and arranged another round of polling, which only allowed each IP address to vote once.
Technicians were subsequently able to the IP address of the hacker and block it, bringing an end to the attacks, at least for the present.
