There are signs that the Chinese government will alter its 3G plans, which has led to global telecommunication equipment manufacturers reducing their expected revenue several-fold.
It is being reported that China will launch a mobile network before the 2008 Olympics, but that it will reduce the number of 3G licenses. Analysts are predicting that three, rather than four, licenses will be issued at some point next year, of which one will be for adopting the TD-SCDMA standard.
It is expected that China Mobile will adopt WCDMA, China Unicom CDMA 2000, and either China Telecom or China Netcom will get the third license to adopt TD-SCDMA or a mixture of that and another major standard.
