Shanxi Unicom has expanded Motorola's Canopy wireless broadband solution to supply quality data and voice transmission in four cities in Shanxi Province: Datong, Suzhou, Xingzhou and Taiyuen.
The Canopy solution provides wireless broadband access to businesses in the four cities, which are marked with hills and mountains that make it difficult for providers to lay cable or fiber. Shanxi Unicom originally selected Motorola's Canopy solution in December 2003. In order to meet the increasing demand for high-speed voice and data transmission, Shanxi Unicom expanded its networks in May, August and September.
"We are happy to provide our customers with quality Internet and voice connections. We didn't have to lay fiber, which is expensive and time-consuming, and we now have high-quality connections for our customers. The network is highly stable and has run smoothly," said Wu Jian Guang, vice general manager of Shanxi Unicom.
Shanxi Unicom has deployed Motorola's Canopy 5.8 GigaHertz radio links, which are used to provide data and voice services to Internet bars, voice bars, and other enterprises in the four cities. Voice bars are locations where callers get get cost-effective calling rates, while relaxing in an enjoyable environment.
"Shanxi Unicom was able to scale the network over several months. Flexibility and cost-effective features of our products provide a unique advantage to telecom operators and service providers that offer high-speed data and voice solutions to their customers," added Dennis Stipati, director of sales for Motorola's Canopy Wireless Broadband group in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
