Local sources say that there have been secret discussions between the holders of competing digital technologies, HDV and HVD, to formulate a plan to topple the current evolving standard of EVD.
The negotiations have apparently been between Mr. Zhong Peifeng, general manager of Shanghai Jinchen Company and Mr. Ren Weimin, CEO of Kaicheng Corporation. The former company holds the HDV rights in China while the latter controls HVD. Both sides have reportedly reached an agreement to make their technologies interoperable.
Analysts in local media see this as a move to postpone the issuance of a clear digital video standard in China. EVD is thought to be the main contender, but with HVD and HDV working together, it makes standardization of EVD more difficult now.
