China has developed its own DNA test reagent. This is seen as a way of cutting the cost of hospital DNA testing.

The People's Daily says that scientists have designed a reagent more suitable for testing the gene of Chinese people. There is not further information about why the genes of Chinese people are different from others. Currently, the reagent has been tried in dozens of organizations throught China and proved to be effective.

A reagent is a chemical substance used to create a reaction in combination with other substances and China is still highly dependant on imported reagents for DNA testing.
