Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced that Guangdong Telecom, China's largest broadband service provider, has expanded its connectivity with the E-series edge routing platform.
This fifth and latest expansion phase enables Guangdong Telecom to provide reliable ADSL services to over two million broadband subscribers.
"With its extensive and growing customer base, Guangdong Telecom requires a routing platform that enables the delivery of sophisticated broadband services with increased levels of performance, reliability and scale, while also lowering operating expenses," said Eric Yu, vice president, Greater China, for Juniper Networks. "Since the E-series has performed so well in the Guangdong Telecom network, we are pleased that they have once again chosen us to expand their network to meet increased customer demand for ADSL services."
China has one of the highest xDSL user populations in the world, as consumers opt for an increasing range of networked business and entertainment services. These include multiplayer gaming, online communities and business-oriented Web access. According to research analyst Gartner Dataquest(1), China added 21 million new xDSL users from 2002 to 2004 for a total of more than 25.2 million users. Gartner predicts the country will add another seven million by the end of 2005 and will reach 43.3 million xDSL broadband users by the end of 2008.
"The E-series with its innovative architecture has contributed to our success in maintaining our worldwide market share leadership position," added Yu. "As a central component of the Infranet edge, the product has been deployed and proven to support multiple services in many of the world's largest broadband networks."
