The Hong Kong International Airport is testing an RFID system for luggage delivery, but due to its high cost it is unknown when the system will be formally launched.
An airport representative says it is difficult to persuade the airline companies to adopt the technology. The high cost of this system is mainly caused by the expensive rolling marks.
Huang Yaohui, supervisor of Hong Kong International Airport's Technology and Outsourcing said that Hong Kong International Airport has taken a lead in testing RFID in the hope of improving luggage and package delivery efficiency so as to save cost for the airport.
He believes adopting RFID at the airport is of great significance to both the airport's operation and the promotion of RFID application in China. Huang suggested that the high-cost rolling marks be made in China to lower the cost.
