Chinese mobile service provider China Mobile (CHA) announced that its eco-friendly Green Box program, which it launched with Motorola and Nokia last year, will now have more participants.
Six mobile phone manufacturers to join in the program are Bird, LG Mobile, Lenovo, Panasonic, NEC and Amoi. They will each set up more recycling boxes at the business halls of China Mobile and at each of their sales and service sites.
In December last year, China Mobile, Motorola and Nokia jointly initiated the Green Box environmental friendly plan in an effort to reclaim and dispose old mobile phones and components in 40 cities across China. According to a representative from China Mobile, they have already collected 30000 waste mobile phones and parts.
The representative says that the participation of more mobile phone makers will help raise the public's awareness on environmental protection.
