Following a 7.8 Richter scale earthquake that hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province in southwest China on May 12, a number of Chinese technology companies, including Tencent and Rising, have each lent their own support to the disaster relief by making donations.
Among them, Tencent has donated CNY1 million in cash to the Red Cross Society of China through which the money will be given to the disaster hit area. In addition, the company says it will join hands with Jet Li One Foundation to carry out online donations, calling on Internet users to join in the disaster relief effort and devote their love to the people affected.
This is the second time that Tencent's Charity Foundation has initiated emergency aid for China's disaster relief. Early this year, the company initiated its first emergency aid for the Southern China areas that were hit by blizzard.
In addition, Chinese anti-virus software provider Rising has also donated CNY1 million to help the relief.
