China's Huawei Technologies has signed an agreement with the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology to provide USD3 million worth of equipment for the university's wireless communication lab and training center.
Bangladeshi education adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman said at the signing ceremony that he has two important messages: a new type of relationship has been set up between enterprises and educational institutions; and corporate social responsibility has become reality instead of just a discussion topic. He also thanked Huawei for the donations, and hoped BUET will make good use of them.
Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh Wang Yu attended the signing ceremony, and he said Huawei has set up a good example in corporate social responsibility and has made great contributions to the friendship between the two nations.
Huawei entered the Bangladeshi market in 1998, and is now the biggest telecommunication solutions provider in Bangladesh. It has more than 700 local employees now with over 200 graduated from BUET. In December 2007, Huawei says it donated data communication equipment worth USD600,000 to organizations within the country.
