According to a report on Chinese search engine market in 2008 released by the Chinese market research firm Analysys International, Google (GOOG) China made CNY973 million revenue in the first three quarters of 2008.
This is the first ever-published operating revenue of Google China, though it comes via a third party. The report says that the overall scale of China's search engine market was CNY4.664 billion in the same period, a year-on-year increase of 75.8%. The Chinese search engine provider Baidu.com, along with Google China, still dominated the Chinese search engine market.
In regards to revenue, Baidu made CNY2.275 billion in the first three quarters of 2008.
Commenting on this report, Dr. Kaifu Lee, vice president of Google, says that the revenue statistics of Google China released by Analysys International is probably an estimated number based on information from Google's advertises and agencies as well as the statistical result of users' click rate. Lee adds that Google is very optimistic and its traffic and performance in 2008 has exceeded expectations.
