The General Administration of Press and Publication of China has issued a notice to enhance the authorization and management of imported online games and states that unauthorized online games should not be exhibited in China.
The notice points out that some problems recently have developed in China's online game market and it states some illegal enterprises promote online game products that contain pornographic and violent contents via the Internet; some publish and operate imported online games without authorization; some overseas organizations promote and display unauthorized online game products in exhibitions and meetings in China under the guise of technology introductions; and some departments carry out online game authorizations without the approval of the State Council, which disturbs the normal management procedures of online games.
According to local media reports, GAPP's reported states that any enterprise that wants to provide online game publication and operation services should gain the direct authorization of GAPP and gain an Internet publication service certificate that covers the range of online game publication services.
The notice emphasizes that GAPP is the only approved department by the State Council that is in charge of the authorization of the imported online games authorized by overseas copyright holders.
