Chinese telecom operator China Telecom has announced that starting from October 1, 2009, users of China Telecom's three eSurfing packages will be free from charges of incoming calls in mainland China, with exceptions of calls from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.
According to China Telecom, the three packages include "My e-Home", "BizNavigator", and "eSurfing Business Trip". China Telecom's 3G mobile phone users of any of the three packages will not need to pay for the incoming calls from October 1, even when they travel to another city on the Chinese mainland. This new preferential service will reportedly benefit people who used to spend a lot on mobile phone roaming.
To coordinate with this new service, China Telecom will launch about 70 types of new 3G mobile phones with market prices of around CNY1,000.
Another Chinese telecom operator China Unicom has also announced plans to cancel roaming fees of incoming calls for its 3G users. The company will reportedly announce the beginning of the commercial operation of its 3G business on September 28, 2009.
