According to latest statistics provided by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in 2009, China's telecom industry achieved accumulated revenue of CNY2.568 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 14.4%; and it reached operating revenue of CNY870.73 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.
The ministry stated that during last year, China's fixed line business continued to decline and the growth of mobile communications business slowed. A total number of 539.82 billion calls were made on the fixed line network in 2009, a decrease of 12.7% compared with the previous year; the accumulated time of long-distance calls made on the network was 82.56 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 6.3%; the accumulated time of calls made on the mobile network was 3.534 trillion minutes, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%; the accumulated time of VoIP calls was 118.56 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%; and 771.3 mobile short messages were sent, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.
For various telecom sectors in China, revenue from the mobile communications network business increased by 13.2% year-on-year to CNY509.09 billion, accounting for 60.4% of total revenue from main businesses; revenue from fixed line local network business decreased by 14.4% to CNY135.68 billion, accounting for 16.1%; revenue from long-distance call network business decreased by 5.3% to CNY98.26 billion, accounting for 11.7%; and revenue from data communications network business increased by 0.3% year-on-year to CNY99.4 billion, accounting for 11.8%.
In 2009, the number of China's phone users increased by 79.467 million to 1.061 billion. The number of fixed line users decreased by 26.671 million to 314 million; the number of mobile phone users increased by 106.138 million to 747 million. In addition, the number of broadband users in China increased by 20.347 million to 103.226 million.
