According to statistics provided by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by the end of May 2010, the number of China's 3G users had reached 21.9 million, an increase of 8.642 million compared with the end of 2009.
In addition, China's 3G networks added 2.3 million new users in May 2010, an increase of 11.7% compared with the previous month.
Of these 21.9 million users, 6.73 million were using China Telecom's CDMA services, including 616,000 new users in May; 9.32 million were using China Mobile's TD-SCDMA services, including 917,000 new users in May; and 5.85 million were using China Unicom's WCDMA services, including 766,000 new users in May.
By the end of May 2010, the three major Chinese telecom operators had completed actual investments of CNY11.15 billion in their respective 3G businesses this year. For details, China Telecom completed investments of CNY6.22 billion, accounting for 23% of its planned investments for 2010; China Mobile completed investments of CNY3.72 billion, accounting for 8.3% of its planned investments, and China Unicom completed investments of CNY1.21 billion, accounting for 5.3% of its planned investments.
