Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei Technologies has announced that it has gained a wireless network equipment order from Everything Everywhere, one of the largest telecom ventures in the United Kingdom.
This is reportedly the first time for Huawei to gain a major wireless network contract in the UK.
Under this four-year contract, Huawei will update Everything Everywhere's mobile network equipment. After that, Everything Everywhere will be able to offer high-speed mobile data services. Neither company released financial details of the contract, but it is likely worth hundreds of million of dollars.
Huawei has recently expanded its businesses into other Asian countries and the European market. The company said in April 2011 that its operating revenue is expected to increase from CNY185 billion in 2010 to CNY199 billion in 2011. It also revealed that it plans to increase the number of its employees in UK to 1,000 in the next three years. Victor Zhang, CEO for Huawei's branch in UK, said the contract with Everything Everywhere is a milestone as well as a breakthrough for the Chinese telecom equipment maker.
Everything Everywhere is one of the largest telecom companies in UK and it operates the T-Mobile and Orange brands. By the end of March 2011, the company has 27.7 million users.
