Tuniu.com, a Chinese Internet tourism service provider, announced that Tang Zhengrong, former executive of Alibaba, has joined the company as chief technology officer.
According to public files, Tang has been working in the Internet technology industry for the past 20 years. He was admitted to the department of computer science and technology of Tsinghua University in 1988. After that, he gained a bachelor's degree of computer from State University of New York at Albany, and a master's degree of computer from the University of Pittsburgh.
From 1995 to 2004, Tang worked for several well-known American Internet companies. He was chief architect at CTB/McGraw-Hill Research, architect at Neoforma, senior engineer at Comergent Technologies, technical director at Perot Systems and Industry.NET. In 2004, Tang joined Alibaba Group and participated and led many technical development projects, including the architecture relocation of Taobao.com, the establishment of Alipay.com, and the development of Alibaba's international website.
Founded in October 2006, Tuniu.com is a Chinese online tourism service provider which focuses on the mass tourism sector. Yu Dunde, chief executive officer of Tuniu.com, said in a previous interview that the company has realized profit in the first quarter of 2013, and they target sales of CNY4 billion for the entire year of 2013.
