Focusing on supporting entrepreneurial start-ups specializing in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and robotics, China's Lenovo Group has bet big on Hong Kong.
Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group have just launched the Lenovo Accelerator in Hong Kong, which is reportedly Lenovo Group's first entrepreneurship accelerator in China. It aims to help entrepreneurs at early stages and it focuses on core technologies and the TMT field.
He Zhiqiang, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Lenovo Group and president of Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group, said that with Lenovo's rich background in technology, supply chain, branding and global marketing network, they are well positioned to shape the future of cutting-edge technologies by nurturing start-ups and bringing disruptive products to market. It is Lenovo's plan to drive financial returns, but they also see significant value to Lenovo in identifying technologies and innovations that have the potential to be incorporated into their increasingly customer centric products.
The theme of Lenovo Accelerator's first program is "Lenovo Global Top Ten". It will cooperate with Hong Kong Cyberport and a total of ten start-ups will be invited to participate in a comprehensive three-month incubation program that includes work space at Cyberport, professional mentoring, research and technology consulting, prototype production, and road show support. In addition, each start-up will receive seed funding of around USD100,000.
