Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek announced to join hands with Intel to introduce its latest 5G modem into the PC market.
Based on the cooperation, the two parties will deploy 5G solution in key consumer and business laptop market. International laptop giants Dell and HP are expected to become the first OEM manufacturers to adopt the 5G solution and the first batch of end products are expected to be launched at the beginning of 2021.
It is said that MediaTek's newly launched 5G PC modem is developed basing on the previous 5G modem Helio M70. Helio M70 is the key part of MediaTek's first wave of 5G flagship smartphone system chip.
Gregory Bryant, Intel's executive vice president and general manager of client computing division, said that 5G will open new computing and network connection level and it will change their way of interaction with the world. The cooperation of Intel and MediaTek combines system integration with deep technology and engineering experts in the network connection sector, aiming to jointly bring 5G experience to the next generation of the world's best PCs.
