Government agencies are claiming that they have managed to control the Sasser computer worm after businesses and government departments installed fixes that helped prevent a rise in infections.

New infections fell to 12,305 on Saturday, after more than 24,000 were recorded on May 3. The Sasser worm exploits flaws in the XP and 2000 versions of Microsoft's Windows operating system, causing computers to reboot repeatedly.
