Opera Software ASA and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. today announced their licensing agreement to provide China with Opera's full Internet browser for Datang Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G standard network, TD-SCDMA.
Datang Mobile, one of China's largest government owned telecom equipment manufacturers and the dominant TD-SCDMA standard IPR holder, will offer a complete 3G mobile phone solution with Opera to provide users of the new systems a feature-rich experience with full Internet access.
Datang Mobile has made the world's first TD-SCDMA 3G handset solution and the world's first commercial TD-SCDMA handset. Opera will be embedded in the solution and offered to the handset manufacturers preparing for the TD-SCDMA. TD-SCDMA is among three 3G standards in the world and is set to deploy in China by mid-2005.
With standardization as a key priority in the adoption of the network in China and for its eventual globalization, Opera supports all open Web standards necessary to browse the entire Web while operating on the TD-SCDMA network. Additionally, Opera will provide 3G mobile users in China the same unique features and functionalities that has driven the success of the mobile Internet experience in Europe.
