Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei is considering building its first research and development center in Taiwan.

According to reports in Taiwanese local media, a spokesperson from Huawei said that the company's procurement from Taiwan will increase with its revenue growth. In 2011, Huawei's procurement value in Taiwan reached NTD110 billion, which was about CNY23.65 billion.

In 2011, Huawei's operating revenue reached CNY203.9 billion and the company aims at 10% to 20% revenue growth during the year of 2012. Lu Kui, general manager for Huawei's general agency in Taiwan, confirmed that Huawei will promote the establishment of its first R&D center in Taiwan by setting up a local subsidiary.

Huawei's spokesperson also said that Huawei is optimistic about the Taiwanese market and the company plans to set up a new local branch, which will be engaged in the research and development, manufacturing and sales, as well as after-sales services of communications devices. However, Huawei emphasized that the company will not invested in the telecom operating businesses and it will only be a devices and ICT solutions provider.

According to Scott Sykes, vice president for Huawei's international media affairs, Huawei mainly purchases from Taiwan, Japan, and the U.S.

So far, Huawei has built 23 R&D centers and 32 innovation centers worldwide, of which seven are located on Chinese mainland.
