Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC published its final performance report for the third financial quarter of 2012, stating that its operating revenue was NTD70.2 billion during the reporting period; while its net profit after taxes was NTD3.9 billion, a decrease of 79% compared with the NTD18.68 billion in the same period of last year.

At the same time, HTC's revenue and profit both saw declines compared with the previous quarter. In the second financial quarter, the company's operating revenue was NTD91.04 billion and its net profit was NTD7.4 billion.

HTC previously predicted that its operating revenue for the third financial quarter would be between NTD70 billion and NTD80 billion.

Facing the severe competition pressure from Apple and Samsung, HTC's smartphone sales have been lagging behind iPhone and Galaxy. To compete, the company launched several new products over the past two months, including HTC 8X and HTC 8S based on Windows Phone 8; and HTC One X+, the upgraded version of HTC One X.

HTC believes that the Chinese mainland market will become a major driver for its growth since its branding and carrier relationships are still powerful in this marketplace. The company said since the launch of its One series products in the second quarter, the growth in Asian market met the expectations, and both North Asia and South Asia saw satisfactory sales.
