Shanghai Telecom and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission have jointly launched a special phone for parents to keep track of the whereabouts of their kids.
The new phone is called "Xiao Ling Tong", which is pronounced similar to the PHS Little Smart system, but with a different spelling. It is a new addition to the Little Smart family and can be used by parents to know about their children's whereabouts through a call, a short message or visting a website to use GPS to track.
Shanghai Telecom also launched a special Little Smart phone for elderly people during last year's Double Ninth Festival.
Analysts believe that Shanghai Telecom's reclassification and innovation within the Little Smart sector will help it gain more growth. The phones on the Little Smart network are generally less expensive than CDMA or GSM phones, and they are usually targeted at rural areas or low-income city dwellers.
