According to the statistics of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, from January to June 2008, the total output of television sets in China was 39.81 million, a year-on-year increase of 14% compared with the 34.936 million produced in the same period of 2007.
Of the total quantity, LCD TV sets were 10.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 65.8% from the last year's 6.22 million; plasma TV sets were 783,000, a year-on-year increase of 241.9% from 229,000; projection TV sets were 5,000, a significant year-on-year decrease of 89.4% from 47,000.
A representative from the MIIT says that the reason for the remarkable growth of the output of plasma TV sets is because the active participation of major Chinese TV sets manufacturers, including TCL, Skyworth and Konka, in the manufacturing. At the same time, the Chinese plasma TV market and the rise of consumers' acceptance also promoted the production of the plasma TV sets.
