Chinese security, office software and online game provider Kingsoft has published its financial report for the fourth quarter and the entire year of 2008, and the company states that its total revenue in 2008 increased by 47% year-on-year to CNY820.9 million, of which, 67% was from its online game sector while 32% was from software.
Kingsoft said its revenue for the fourth quarter of 2008 was CNY257.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 55% and an increase of 19% compared with the third quarter. Of the total revenue, CNY176.7 million was from its online game business, accounting for 69% of the total revenue and that from the software business was CNY80.4 million, accounting for 31%.
For the entire year of 2008, Kingsoft's online game business gained revenue of CNY553.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 40% and its software business gained CNY261.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 67%.
For the online game sector, by December 31, 2008, the highest number of daily average online users of Kingsoft's online games had reached one million, increasing 70% compared with the previous year. The monthly average spending of each of its paid users was CNY38, increasing 3%. So far, Kingsoft has operated eight online games, including six self-developed games. The company has four research bases in Zhuhai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Dalian, respectively.
For software, its security software Kingsoft Duba was the major contributor to its revenue. In 2008, the revenue of Kingsoft Duba increased by 81% year-on-year to CNY201.4 million, accounting for 77% of the total revenue of Kingsoft's software business. By December 31, 2008, the number of daily average paid users of Kingsoft Duba has reached 8.4 million.
Apart from Duba, Kingsoft's translation software Ciba also maintained stable development. In May 2008, the company started cooperation with Google to jointly launch Google-Kingsoft Ciba. In March 26, 2009, Kingsoft launched the Japanese edition of its Ciba product. In addition, the company's new office software WPS Office 2009 will bring new tools to users.
